2025 Exterior Updates

I learned that the rust-preventing paint we used on the exposed frame was NOT UV resistant, so we cleaned all the exposed frame area up and re-painted them with aluminum coloured spray enamel.

We also replaced the tires with the size they came with. I did find tires that were the original size, but they were slightly taller than the ones on the trailer and someone on the internet commented that the wheels weren’t centered in the wheel wells. I don’t have a lot of clearance as it is, so I didn’t want to take a chance, especially because those tires are less common and have a lower weight rating. The wrong sized tires are thicker and a pain to get on and off, but I think it’s worth it for the availability and extra weight rating. I can’t believe I’ll be building it lighter than it was originally 🙂

The kitchen fan is poorly placed, so I had to remove it before I could remove the window next to it. So I cleaned it up, replaced the springs (which I’ll probably have to do again), and riveted it back on with shaveable Olympic rivets, which should prevent leaking and look like the buck rivets they should be. I finally figured out to use the shaver properly, so I was pretty proud of them.

The expert who replaced the floor also removed the giant antenna and patched a bunch of holes. He missed a giant hole in the very front above the window and whatever patch we installed to cover it would mean that we would never be able to add the letters, so we made a plaque to patch the whole and fly our Fraternal Order of the Moai flag.

The white air conditioner cover bugged me to no end, so Lina painted it aluminum color.

I also glued the new fridge vent cover and both vent covers onto the body instead of rivets to prevent leaks. It seems to have held up well after the first trip. The glue is pretty ugly, so I didn’t take any pictures of them.

I also removed and cleaned up all of the door frames and replaced all of the seals. And replaced the door catch with the proper, Olympic rivets.
